2023 Centenary Year Plans           Sailing & Social Programme

The Solent Sunbeam class intends to mark 2023, its Centenary year, in a number of ways; there will be a weekend visit to Bembridge in May to revisit the harbour where the Sunbeams were first built, there will be a Centenary Regatta at ISC in June followed by the Centenary Party, racing at Itchenor Keelboat Week, also in June and a strong attendance at Cowes Week, which the Class first visited 100 years ago. A logo to mark the 100 years since the first fleet raced at Cowes will be provided for all Sunbeam mainsails and some new Centenary-themed merchandising is being produced for class members to wear.

One event that deserves early attention is the Centenary Regatta on 7, 8 and 9 June 2023, when we plan on at least one day to have all Itchenor-based Solent Sunbeams out sailing for a cruise in company around the harbour, hopefully with some Falmouth Sunbeams joining us. If you are a boat owner but unable to attend, you are encouraged to allow an experienced Sunbeam helm to take your boat out to participate in this event, which will only be sailed if the weather is appropriate. The Class is creating a list of helms for any boats that may need them and will also help find crew for those who feel their normal team needs an extra hand on the day. More on this in a later post.

Although it is early days, an initial Sailing and Social programme for 2023 can be seen here. (The image that opens can be magnified by clicking on it). The programme will provide links to more information for each event. This information will become more detailed over time as our plans firm up.
