2018 was another busy year for Haines, with no two days the same, and the dedicated team kept fully occupied throughout the season. There was the usual mix of winter storage, repairs and maintenance for the classic keelboat fleets, as well as an increasing number of RIBs using the yard for both winter storage, maintenance and valeting as well as ‘concierge’ boating throughout the summer season. In addition, there was a growth in GRP and composite repairs for dinghies.

Mid-season, some urgent repairs were required to the bow of Solent Sunbeam ‘Melody’ which had suffered structural damage while out racing. The shipwright skills and experience of the team at Haines were able to strip back the bow, replace the damaged stem and paint and varnish to get the keelboat back on the water in record time, looking good as new!

The highly skilled craftsmen and shipwrights at Haines can quickly repair damaged hulls, spars and foils as well as providing replacement race-spec control lines, halyards, blocks and keelboat hardware from all the leading brands. Also on-site are Haines highly experienced coating team who take incredible pride in the finish achieved, whether it be gelcoat, varnish or paints of any type. Did you know that Haines has a qualified yacht surveyor as part of the team, ensuring extra peace of mind that she will be checked and overseen by someone with the right skills and experience when your boat is slipped, scrubbed and stored?

When things get ‘quiet’ during the late summer, Haines spends time, on a rotating basis, refurbishing and maintaining the ground tackle of its 130 mooring buoys which lie off the public hard and sailing club. The moorings sport proper spliced mooring lines and special soft buoys to ensure minimum damage to precious hulls that use them as they swing in the tide.
